Subject Overview
Citizenship is a new subject to the curriculum.Lessons are devised to give students the knowledge, skills and understanding to play an effective role in society at local, national and international levels.Students become aware of their rights and responsibilities and study political and economic institutions.Citizenship encourages students to become active members of the community, taking opportunities to participate in creative ways.
PSHE lessons give the students the opportunity to:
- develop self-esteem;
- develop their talents and their abilities;
- understand relationships; and
- develop an awareness of how to live a healthy and safe life-style.
Students are taught through a variety of teaching styles and are given numerous opportunities to express their own opinions and voice them in the appropriate manner.

Course Information
At Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, students are taught CP (Citizenship and PSHE) for one lesson each week.Topics are delivered in four-week teaching blocks, and are supported by speakers from external agencies.Further additions to the curriculum programme for CP are included in the timetable for Masterclass Week.Waddesdon School is proud of its tradition of daily, whole-school assemblies; these provide a valuable opportunity to address key issues included in the Citizenship programme.Staff, Sixth Form students and visiting speakers contribute to the wide-ranging issues encompassed in these two subjects.
Each year group has three conferences entitled Successful Learning.
