Subject Overview

KS3 Years

The curriculum covers all strands of the Numeracy Strategy. This includes: Using and Applying Mathematics, Number and Algebra, Shape, Space and Measures and Statistics. At Waddesdon, the Numeracy Strategy is taught in Years 7 and 8.

KS4 GCSE Years 9, 10 and 11

All students follow the Edexcel linear GCSE. Most students take GCSE Statistics; this may be in Year 10 or Year 11.

The GCSE Statistics requires a statistical enquiry to be undertaken. This comprises 25% of the total.

KS5

The Edexcel GCE A Level is followed. AS consists of two Pure Mathematical units and an application unit. Two more Pure Maths units and another application is required for A2.

The Department is well equipped with texts and homework booklets. All teaching rooms are equipped with whiteboards and OHPs. Four rooms have digital projectors and an interactive whiteboard.

Parents

Parents are key to the support of students’ education. In Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, additional Parents’ Evenings are organised which explain how parents can support their child’s progress in Mathematics.

How to Support Your Child

  • Ask what they have learnt today.
  • Support the organisation of books and equipment.
  • Practise Mental Mathematics, with particular focus on the multiplication tables. Maximum time 10 minutes.
  • Ask to look at completed homework.
