Our whole school production this year was Godspell and we decided early on in the summer term to stage the show in November. This gave us nine weeks in total from September to rehearse and prepare for a cast and crew of 80! We wanted a modern twist to “Godspell” which is based on the Gospel According to St Matthew, and decided on a skateboard park feel with students in hoodies. Colour and vibrancy were also evident with elements of a circus feel in some of the numbers. Students took on a variety of roles in the show, not just the performers but also the backstage crew, setting up the seating, operating the lighting and sound, costume making, set design and graffiti, front of house, site team, ticket sales, office team and photography. Our thanks must go to so many people who contribute in a number of ways to ensure that the show was such a success.
Our female lead, Jodie Hamilton who played Jesus said, “I enjoyed my experience of Godspell as I got to work with charismatic people. I loved the aspect of working with new people that I hadn’t met before and making new friends. The performance itself was energetic and flamboyant because of the spirit and drive of the whole team. The rehearsals were fun but hard work because of all the line learning but it was all worth it in the end as it was a great show”. Helen Tyrrell, Subject Leader for Drama.
