New Sixth Form Common Room

Monday, September 6th 2010 was a momentous day for Waddesdon School Sixth Form as their brand new Common Room was officially opened. During the Summer holiday, the site staff along with external contractors had been busily converting the old Common Room into an Internet Café style room, complete with wireless access to the Internet and a new extension housing a TV annexe.

Bright paintwork, chrome and beech furniture and modular seating all combine to make a light, funky and inviting new area for Sixth Form use. In addition, the Sixth Form Study Centre has also been upgraded, with new computers and an open-plan office feel. Waddesdon School Sixth Formers now have a wide choice of facilities to support their learning. They can choose to work in silent, individual study in the Study Centre or Library, or to use the new Common Room for group work, research or less formal study in a relaxed environment. The wireless connection available in the Common Room means that students are able to use their own personal laptops for work if they have them. The TV annexe, or “snug”, has proved popular at break times for a chat and relaxation.

Comments from Sixth Formers about the new Common Room include:

"It’s great to have a place to go where we can still work, but in a more informal environment than the Study Centre"

"I love the bright colours and the huge clock!"

"“It’s going to be really useful to be able to get together and work as a group in our Study Periods"

Huge thanks go to all the Site Staff and Mrs Homewood for working so hard over Summer to get the new Common Room extended, furnished, decorated and ready in just 6 weeks!
