They rowed the 6000Km, from Geraldton, Western Australia to Port Louis, Mauritius. It took them 78 days, 15 hours and 54 minutes.
They did it in a 29-foot Ocean Rowing Boat, Pura Vida, rowing for 2 hours followed by just 2 hours off to eat, wash and sleep each day of the voyage! The last week only three "Angels" were able to row, due to a rib and back injury to Sarah, who came to speak in assembly at school in February.
They are the 5th team ever to row the Indian Ocean (16 people in total) and are the first all female crew ever to do this. In comparison, nearly 1000 people have reached the summit of Mount Everest 12 people have walked on the moon they consumed 7,000 calories a day; consisting of three meals:
In fact, they’ve each eaten at least 158 packet meal over the 79 days, just to give them the strength and energy to keep rowing!!! They’ve endured everything the Indian Ocean could throw at them, huge waves, storms, whirlpools and beautiful sunsets.
They arrived safely in Mauritius on 7th July. Though sadly a bad weather system stopped them crossing the race finish line by 10Km so, although they finished second they do not count as finishers in the race but their world record as the first women to row the Indian Ocean stands. They have given up jobs, homes and spent their savings to do this mad and inspiring thing. You may ask, WHY? It was all to raise £50,000 for
