Sport Relief
Posted 29-04-08
Sport Relief 2008 was a great success, with £710.56 being raised.
The Staff versus Sixth Form netball match on Friday 14th March 2008 was a terrific success: many laughs were had, mainly seeing the male members of staff in netball skirts and the delightful Sixth Form cheerleading team. The match started off badly for the Sixth Form, with the Staff leading in the early period, but the Sixth Form finally imposed a massive 8-4 defeat on the Staff.
Thank you to all those who donated, supported and helped in any way.

Help Us Collect Vouchers!
Posted 29-04-08

As you are probably aware, this year the school is participating in both the Sainsbury Active Kids and Tesco Computers for Schools campaigns. In previous years these voucher schemes have enabled the school to obtain extra equipment and enhance the learning experience we can offer. For these campaigns to be a real success we need help from our students and their families. To encourage as much participation and support as possible we will be running an inter-form competition to see which form can collect the most vouchers. The prize for the winning form will be an after school trip to Jardines Bowling Club in Aylesbury for bowling and food!
Sainsbury’s Active Kids 2008
From 14th February until 4th June 2008, for every £10 you spend at Sainsbury’s, you will receive one Active Kids voucher. The Active Kids campaign encourages children to exercise and also highlights the importance of a healthy balanced diet. So, as an added bonus, you can earn one extra active voucher for every £10 spent on fresh fruit and vegetables and ‘Healthy Apple’ stamped products. Any vouchers collected will be used to purchase sports equipment.
Your support and commitment will be crucial and there are a number of ways in which you can support the school in collecting Active Kids vouchers.
- Collect vouchers for every £10 spent at Sainsbury’s, online at Sainsbury’s or at Sainsbury’s petrol stations.
- You can also convert Nectar points to Active Kids vouchers online at www.nectar.com. Simply select our school from the drop down list and follow the instructions on screen.
Tesco Computers for Schools 2008
From the 3rd March 2008 until the 11th May 2008, for every £10 you spend at Tesco you will receive one voucher. Any vouchers will be used to purchase computer equipment. Your support and commitment will be crucial and there are a number of ways in which you can support the school in collecting Computers for Schools vouchers.
- One voucher is given for every £10 spent in Tesco stores.
- One voucher is given for every £5 spent in Tesco Express stores.
- For every working mobile phone our school sends in, we will be given 30 vouchers, and 5 for a non-working phone.
- For every empty inkjet cartridge we send in that can be recycled, we will be given 10 vouchers.
All vouchers should be handed in to form tutors by 13th June 2008 to count towards the inter-form competition. We can accept vouchers, ink jet cartridges and mobile phones after this date but they will not count towards the inter-form competition totals.
With benefits for both the school and pupils, we very much hope you support these campaigns and spread the word to friends and family that we are collecting vouchers.
Thank you and good luck!

BANGLADESH CAKE SALE
Posted 29-04-05
In November 2007 a cyclone hit Bangladesh resulting in the tragic loss of homes and many lives. Form 8MJB decided they would hold a charitable event to help Bangladesh. The pupils stayed after school to bake cakes which would be sold to raise money. Everyone had a great time doing so and commented on how they would love to do it again. The next day at lunch, a table was set up in the hall for the sale of the cakes. They sold very quickly. Some people were even giving donations without having a slice of cake.
As a form we would like to thank Mrs Clark, Mr Barrett and Miss Stephenson for staying behind after school and being involved in all the excitement. Overall, the cake sale was a huge success as we managed to raise £166.24, as well as having a massive amount of fun within the form.

EIGHT AT THE EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT
Posted 20-04-08
The day that we participated in the European Youth Parliament competition was not at all as we expected but I think I can honestly say that all eight of us thoroughly enjoyed it. After the weeks and weeks that we spent gathering facts and figures; formulating opinions on such topics as the maritime strategy or the situation in Zimbabwe, we entered the newly-built function room of St Hugh’s College. The atmosphere was intense and we were surrounded by highly intelligent young people who were more than happy to express their opinions in lively and articulate speeches – yes, it was highly competitive!
George felt the brunt of one girl’s enthusiasm when she turned to him, determined to prove him wrong but he held his own as we rallied round to support him. I successfully performed my speech too, despite the intimidating audience and I think that although we didn’t go through to the next round, we were a real team. In fact, we were praised for our teamwork and success in using all our team members.
The process was so important, teaching us the importance of debate even for young people and I can definitely say it has shown me how important it is to have opinions and to voice them.
