The Big Gig

A sell out crowd enjoyed ‘The Big Gig’ on Thursday 12th November. The evening was a complete mixture of music in different styles, ranging from classical soloists through the school brass band to rock bands. All of these acts and performers certainly had one thing in common: quality.

The ensembles that took part were Waddesdon Brass Band, Jazz Band, Junior and Senior Singers as well as the ‘Back To The Eighties’ (the upcoming musical opening in February) band and singers giving a performance of ‘Footloose’. All of these performed with a real vibrancy and musical skill that the audience appreciated.

The soloists also performed with aplomb. Amy Gee made her Waddesdon stage debut and played extremely well, as did Daniel Scott who was ably accompanied by Adriano Caruso. Andy Broome (piano), Will Descrettes (cello), and Georgie Martin (Voice) showed off the quality of the Sixth Form. David ‘Maltloaf’ Everitt brought the house down with his version of ‘Bat Out Of Hell’.

Waddesdon School has an immensely busy extra-curricular schedule. On the same night the ‘Youth Speaks’ Rotary Club speaking competition was being held in Stoke Mandeville. Year 11 student Lara Keay somehow managed to be involved in both. She captivated the audience with her mellow acoustic pop songs.

‘This Is Freedom’ and ‘The Scallys’ showed why they are two rock bands who are making a massive impact on the local rock band scene with their tuneful and entertaining sets.

All in all it was a very successful and entertaining evening.

Red Kites over Waddesdon

Red Kites are a regular sight soaring over Waddesdon. The Red Kite has been successfully reintroduced to the nearby Chiltern Hills over the last decade and has spread to the Waddesdon area, particularly the wooded areas around the manor. We have seen up to 20 Kites around the school, usually early in the morning before students arrive, they are usually seen perched on the fence around the Astroturf and can regularly be seen feeding on the ground.

More information about these magnificent birds and the program to reintroduce them can be found on Wikipedia and Chilternsaonb.org

The following pictures were taken during the October half term.
