Business: Business & Economics

Subject Overview

In Business and Economics, we aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to understand and participate in the dynamic world around them. We teach students to apply theory to real-world situations, think critically and communicate their ideas clearly and analytically. Through consistent teaching approaches, purposeful use of case studies and the news and development of skills, we create a learning environment where every student is supported to achieve their potential.

Whether debating a firm’s pricing strategy or analysing the global economy we hope our students develop curiosity, independence, and commercial awareness that will serve them beyond the classroom and, if they wish to, continue their Business or Economics education further. Our curriculum is designed to challenge, inspire, and prepare all learners for future study, careers, and life in a complex and ever-changing world.

Curriculum Intent

Our Business curriculum develops commercially aware, curious students who can interpret how organisations make decisions in a competitive, changing environment. Students build secure knowledge of key business functions and learn to apply this to real firms through purposeful case studies and current news, so theory becomes a tool for explaining what businesses do and why it matters.

We explicitly teach the skills that underpin success in Business and beyond. Analysing quantitative and qualitative data, constructing logical chains of reasoning, evaluating trade-offs for different stakeholders, and communicating judgements clearly with evidence. Across GCSE and A Level, students’ progress from understanding core concepts to synoptic thinking, strategic decision-making, and confident critical reflection on ethics, sustainability and risk.
