Subject Overview

In Business and Economics, we aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to understand and participate in the dynamic world around them. We teach students to apply theory to real-world situations, think critically and communicate their ideas clearly and analytically. Through consistent teaching approaches, purposeful use of case studies and the news and development of skills, we create a learning environment where every student is supported to achieve their potential.

Whether debating a firm’s pricing strategy or analysing the global economy we hope our students develop curiosity, independence, and commercial awareness that will serve them beyond the classroom and, if they wish to, continue their Business or Economics education further. Our curriculum is designed to challenge, inspire, and prepare all learners for future study, careers, and life in a complex and ever-changing world.

Curriculum Intent

Our Economics curriculum develops inquisitive students who can explain how markets and the wider economy work, question assumptions, and evaluate competing viewpoints. Students learn to use economic models and real-world evidence to interpret economic issues, from prices and inequality to growth, inflation and global shocks, so they become confident in applying economic thinking to everyday life.

We prioritise the core disciplinary skills of Economics, rigorous analysis using diagrams and data, quantitative competence, and evaluation that recognises short and long-run impacts, distributional consequences, and unintended outcomes. Through regular engagement with news and contemporary debates, students learn to form balanced, evidence-based judgements, communicate precisely, and sustain an independent, enquiring approach that supports future study.
